Default Harbor Freight Torch

That is the trouch in question, or at least it is the one I used. It's also get for seasoning the inside of a UDS. I sprayed pam all over the inside, and took that to the outside until it smoked.

Mine is the absolut best weed burner, it was free!

Another great tool I used form harbor frieght is this.
http://www.harborfreight.com/power-t...der-95578.html

I Got mine one time for $9.99 but 14.99 is good to.

They make a cupped wheel for it, that has over lapping sandpaper on it, that will grind off any remining liner after the burn, much faster that a wire wheel.

Not to be a complete idiot....but that torch would be used to give a fast light to the lump, right? How long does it take to get enough going? I pretty much only use the little glycerine squares now.

The weed burner/roofers torches are also great for stating the wood or lump fires. With the one with the turbo handle on it is also great for doing some pryo the folks like. If it is dark enough shoots flame 3 feet.

Here is a site that has the Harbor Freight coupons all the time

HOT DEALS this coupon expires 12/31/2010

Here is a PDF of the two coupons times 2 just print them

Do not get this for any reason
Harbor Freight Propane torch #91899 Their model name is Propane Torch with three burners!

This is the case it comes in with the 3 flame spreader tips not really separate burners. Along with the soldering solid tip extension.

Well it isn't what it appears to be on the web site or in the box.
It has only one burner and nozzle fitting. Whether it is the round standard tip, the pipe soldering tip 3/4 Round flame spreading one or the fan shaped flat flame spreading tip.

The burner tip is in two parts, the one that comes attached to the torch handle,The fitting with the gas nozzle hole in it. And then the second part that has the air holes in it.

This is the part that has the air flow control band, Silver band around the tube. It is so flimsy that it bends out of shape and as soon as you start to move it. It has no spring to it. This part comes attached to what they call the soldering tip (brass round flame tip)

Shows the part between the red marks to get any of the torch tips to work.

That was my friends problem, as he didn't know about the changing it when he changed the flame spreaders. As they have a different thread size on the the three spreader tips that only fit the second part of the burner assembly. The thumb wheel at the flame spreader is the give away. Of course they didn't mention this in the instructions manual. Which he claims none of the 3 units had in their boxes at the store. Even in the one I downloaded from their site it makes now mention of this important point.

So I solved the why of "why he couldn't get it to work", and it is going back to him. As I have a number of cylinder/bottle pressure propane torches. Both small ones and a gentec quick change High BTU one.
I will say that even for occasional use this set isn't worth it, even with a 25% coupon. For a hose and handle torch for plumbing work get any of the ones that are carried by the Big box home stores.

I have had my eye on these for a while...Besides using them to start the coals do y'all know if they put out enough heat to burn the liners out of a drum? The drums I have access to have the red liner which takes one hell of a good fire or two to burn out...Now that it's dry around here I cant build a burn out fire....

With the control open wide it does put out a lot of heat it may take more then one burn and scrape but it will do the job. Just remember to stay out of the smoke or have a good paint/smoke rated respirator a welding fume one comes to mind. as the liners no many what color are epoxy phenolic paint and the fumes are nasty and can caused illness.
