I got the chance to scout out this place in Columbia, SC yesterday and I must say I really liked it...
A little background first... I was first exposed to this type of BBQ way back in 83-84 when I was attending Orangeburg Technical college ( about 30 or so miles south of Columbia ) and you could say all other BBQ is measured by this in my mind. Sorta what I was weaned on :becky:

They are a buffet type place. all you can eat for $11.95 including sweet tea.
Ok.. here's the setup...they have Hash and rice, chopped pork( no recognizable smoke taste but good), baked beans, mac and cheese, fried chicken (pretty good actually even if it isnt usually on a bbq menu), cracklins of course, hushpuppies, coleslaw, tatersalad, pickle slices, nanner puddin and regular ol white bread slices. and a pitcher of sweet tea on all the tables

I dug in and the first plate went down quickly...
here is the SECOND plate after I realized I should be taking some pictures

The sides were all pretty good, the beans were the best...actually baked and well seasoned, not the runny right out of the can look of most offerings.

And here is ..plate number 3!...yes I had 3 :becky:

They only had 3 sauces.. Mustard based, Hot and something they called Oriental, which I really couldnt tell from the mustard based..it was yellowish anyways and sorta tasted the same..maybe I didnt get enough of it to really tell.
But I must say...some of that pork and mustard sauce on white bread and slaw...I was in heaven

Sounds like a great place. Not sure how I missed an AYCE when I was working in SC. I could go for some mustard sauce and has (and some cracklins of course) right about now.

Most barbecue places around here offer fried chicken on their buffet lines. I haven't tried this place yet but looks good. You ever tried Shealy's down in the Batesburg-Leesville area?

You ever tries Maurice's mustard sauce?

I'd never doubt when an Upstate Brother says it's good.

BUT...the Mac looks dry. Can't have no dry Mac!

I'd eat the beans if they came in a shoe. I liiike beeens!

They're gonna move this soon to the Venture section but where exactly is this Joint or Restaurant?

The mac and cheese wasnt dry, it was pretty good.
But just like every other buffet type place...it will vary from day to day

Its between Assembly and Huger streets
its in a sorta light industrial area south of Downtown
530 Devine Street
