Default Burn Marks

Hey all. First question so here it goes! Just picked up a drum today to make my UDS. I live in an apartment complex and we have a cement patio out back.

Will the UDS leave burn marks or discolor the cement? Anything I should be aware of here?

Thanks!

Place your drum on 3 or 4 bricks...no more problem.

It will make cement crack and explode during a burnout. I'm just sayin.

Well that would not be good. A layer of bricks will do the trick?

for the burnout, you might want to go with a more than just a layer of bricks, you are gonna generate some heat. Better yet, find a friend with a house for the burnout, ply him, or her, with promised of glorious BBQ in the future. For cooking, a layer of bricks and if you are worried, put one of those cheap steel driveway drip plans under the drum.

get a metal pan under the UDS. i used the over flow pan from a hot water heater. otherwise you may get grease marks on concrete.

Yep, I compete and I always use a "cookie sheet" under my WSM. (Or foil in a pinch! )

Yeah I definitely would put it either on some bricks or blocks or some sort of pan..

Thanks everyone for the tips! It certainly would not be a fun bill to get for cracked/exploded cement.

"Burn Marks" I thought this might be another Militant Squatter thread...

Yeah put them on bricks.

Put wheels as it is nice to be able to wheel around. The auto drip pan is a must.

Cinder blocks is a good tip. The air gaps in the block will keep too much heat from being transmitted through.
