Default Galvanised lid to my UDS

Hello everyone,

I'm just about to set about the galvanised parts of my UDS.

I was going to burn off some of the bolts but most importantly - the lid.

Please see link to image.

I'm sure it's galvanised. So... what should i do? From reading other threads, a good burn up of charcoal and timber might not do it...?

Any thoughts? I was hoping to do it this evening.

Cheers everyone!

Why would you mess with burning it off? it would never get hot enough in normal use to vaporize the zinc, and besides the carcinogens in the smoked meat will kill you way before the zinc would.

You would have to liquify it to burn it off.

Deal with it or get another lid.

So then, why can't (or shouldn't) we use galvanized pipe for our intake tubes?

Who says you shouldnt?

I wouldnt use a galvanized deflector sitting above the fire but its been proven a million times over. Doesnt react till over 1200 degrees. At that point your really not smoking anymore anyways.
