BBQ Android App Just Released

Android will not ad hoc with the CyberQ. You connect to the CyberQ and the app thru infrasfructure. It's really no big deal and easy to do.

OK, but a point people miss is im thinking of competitions, so that means I need to create a new infrastructure to use it in that mode, as in buy a router and bring/set that up.

can a access point be used? I have one of those laying around....

Is it a pure access point or can it be configured as a router also. Most of the one you would buy at Walmart can function as either?

If it is a pure access point I would think you could get it to work if you assigned static IP address to both the cyber q and phone but I cannot test it because I don't have a cyber q or access point.

Even if it's a router you should be able to do it. The router may complain about its WAN/Internet port not working but it should still function just fine for the LAN/WLAN side of the equation. There's <$20 refurb routers to be had at Amazon.

I agree but if its an access point only it will not had out IP address so that is why I mentioned the static IP addresses.

I have an older g-band router that works just fine. No need to get an expensive one just for the comp usage. Also, if you have a laptop the CyberQ will ad hoc to it.

Yep, I just wanted to point out a router would work as well. But even with a router, static IP or at least a reserved DHCP address for the CyberQ is the way to go so you don't have to look up what IP it's on every time you fire it up.

I am not even close to tech savvy....my wife may be switching to Sprint and it smart phone time for me...yes I am stepping up hopefully! We get free phones, I can get a Galaxy or iPhone 4....will this app work with either phone, one better than the other...assorted questions to help me decide. Thanks for the help!

I bleed green, so I always recommend Android. I don't know if i-phony has an app for BBQ....

Technically. the more people that use this... well, the more Popdaddy can control from his Delorean Stretch Limo. I'd be careful. Do you really want your pit highjacked by the arbiter of funk when your not looking?

Would be great if Stoker compatible. There is a Web based but no Android. Need Rocks to provide one for R&D! I'll try this with out and see what I can do. :-o

done! thanks. can you make a feature so it will undo something i do wrong, like using the wrong seasoning or sauce or to much or not enough smoke etc? hey, i just thought of something, how about turning the phone into a temp probe or temp scanner. a probe could be plugged into the round port thingy on the phone and then read the temp.

and when not using it for cooks it could double as a rectal thermometer. but with murphys law and all, i'll probably get a call just as i'm using it and then that old saying "i'm talking out of my *#@." will come true.

Cool app, would love to see this support the Stoker.

Stoker Wifi support will be in the next release hopefully. Testing it this week. Just depends how much time I have to get the kinks worked out.

Awesome, looking forward to it, keep up the good work!:-D

Just an FYI. Released v3.0 which contains Stoker WiFi support and also allows the ability to enter temps manually for those without a wifi temp controller. Right now it allows you to chart the temps after entered, but future releases will contain more functionality built on top of this temp data.

Some other bells and whistles were also added but the 2 main things we were really happy to get out the door were the Stoker integration and manual entry ability.

Have a good weekend Brethren.

Awesome good job. Until I purchase either the Stoker or Guru I will love the manual entry. That was the only thing I was tracking independent of the app then I would merge the info from your report and my tracking sheet to store the complete cook.
