You do not need both the platesetter and the adjustable rig (CGS). If you start with no accessories, you can use and extra grid from another bbq, get some fire bricks and 4 carriage bolts and nuts, and make your own indirect setup.

If you want the adjustable rig, you could go indirect using a pizza stone or fire bricks. I don't have the AR, but the options are amazing with it.

The versatility of the BGE is fully utilized when you can

1) go indirect (using a platesetter or firebricks on a spare grid, or using an AR)

2) get the grid closer to the lump than the standard grid height, for cave-man style cooking, or to accommodate big pots or big cuts of meat.

3) get the food as far away from the fire as you can (use an AR, or the BGE extension grid, or a spare grid and carriage bolts) and build a smaller fire - this gets you the UDS cooking style.

So you don't need much, and if you are on a budget, you can do it yourself.

Don't be afraid to haggle a little bit either. I was able to get a large with the nest, side tables, and cast iron grate for $825.
