120 gal propane tank score
Just scored a 120 gallon propane tank-horizontal from the local scrap metal dealer. about 30" diameter and 6 ft length. He will deliver it for a six pack-total cost. (his father-in-law has been a friend of mine for 25 years)
Now what to do with it?? Know we want to make a pig smoker for 100lb or so pigs and anything else. It is going to end up in a local pub that serves food. I hope some of you folks have a pic or two to share. We have a welder on call and thinking about making it on a trailer for catering. Any thoughts or pics are greatly appreciated. My friend owns the pub, I have 4 BGEs that I use. When I asked my friend why not a BGE "The bums will break it the first week" says he. Thanks for any help. |

For the most versatility, I would go for a horizontal RF stickburner with an insulated firebox if there is any way you can pull that off. Mine is about that size (mine is 24"X72", if yours is 30 even better) with a single 52" door. I've cooked +/- 60 pound hogs and can fit a 80-100 pound hog is I needed to. If you are interested, there are a bunch of builds here, just use the search tool at the bottom of the page and search on "120 gallon build"; or I'll be happy to PM you some build pics. PS: I just up the road near Ocala.

Curious.... How much does a tank that size normally cost?

I see them (120 gallon) pretty routinely for $75-$150. You can also check out propane businesses, some sell their old units but I've heard from some that the new homeland security regulations are making it harder.
