Saw a spot on TV not long ago on it. There were
like 135 teams entered. Many of the top teams are
the same ones that compete in Memphis which is
one of, if not the top contest in the nation. I would like
to go to the one in Vienna. Do you know the dates??

Memphis is just "one of", Premier event is the American Royal, then again I might not be completely objective on that particular comparison. :P

your partial to KC, KC.

I think they are both the top event for each organization, MIM and KCBS.

2004 dates are Fri-Sat Oct 1 &2.
I've got an itch to go to a contest like this ... never
been.. Vienna, Ga and Memphis are the nearest to me.
Al Rocker was featured on the Food Network a few weeks
ago at the Memphis event. He finished 87th out of 234 teams.
His cooker cost over 8K. It would be fun to have brothers meet
at on of these things. I plan to go to at least one within the next
calendar year. Anybody else interested???

Sounds good to me. I would really like to come.
We will see as the time gets closer. We have other
brothers within a reasonable driving range too. Hopefully
we can get together.

Hope you got real deep pockets! Hell, they even charge the judges! :D

I just realized my previous post sounded a bit harsh! Sorry, didn't mean for it to be like that.

Going to the American Royal would be excellent -- either in the open or the invitational. It would be great if "we" could get a team together some year -- share the costs, etc. Get a decent sized site and go hard for all the categories!

The only time the cooker matters is one of those events where the judges actually come by your booth for a presentation. Otherwise there are a lot of winners that use WSM's.

Go to www.cbbqa.com and look at the winner of their contest Carl Kaun. I was at that contest and he won with two WSM's and an offset.
