Each forum section has a description of the forum contents that you can use as a guide to figure out where to post.

Q-talk *ON TOPIC ONLY* QUALITY ON TOPIC discussion of Backyard BBQ, grilling, Equipment and just outdoor cookin' in general, hints, tips, tricks & techniques, success, failures... but stay on topic. And watch for that hijacking.

For equipment questions, this is the place!

BTW, say hi to John Reep! :-D

Welcome!!!! About 7 hours west in Tuscaloosa Al is one of the highest quslity pit makers there is. PM one of the brethren TuscaloosaQ and/or search on his handle to see some quality builds. There might be some closer, but there ain't none better.

I too am from the surrounding Hickory area and have only found one place. It's called Marshall's in Mooresville. I didn't use the guy because when I gave him my specifics for an upright, cabinet style smoker he never got back to me. All I saw were off-sets. I've not seen the smokers in person so I can't testify to quality but I'm sure it's probably comparable to the others.

Thanks for the replies maybe i can find 1 lol if not i can just keep using this old 1 I got ...just looking for something to cook MORE ...doing 40 lbs of ribs and 50 lbs of chicken this weekend ....should be interesting

Good luck finding a quality pit builder in our area. There's a lot folks that will say they can build you whatever you want, but when it comes time to produce it want happen. I suggest either looking out of town for one and picking it up or have it shipped if your budget allows. If not build a couple of UDS's.

LOL your right Garrett had a guy that was gonna me build the best pit ever well that was a year ago and he wont answer the phone now ..oh well just looking for another route

Born in Hickory here and most my family is still there. The simple answer is NO. There are a lot of the racing boys that'll hook you up with a carolina cooker pretty quick cause they are ALWAYS lookin for a reason to weld and to fund their Saturday night addiction. But, I doubt you want one like that.

So if I were you I'd call around to the guys with good reps in the region(lang ect) and work out a happy medium between options and your price range. Hop in the truck or a buddy's and go get that badboy yourself.

Im using a an old POS store bought model but really I have found that if you keep the temp right and rubs are good you can cook on a camp fire ((shrugs)) dont need all the bells and whistles if you know how to cook.... \m/ party hard the weekends on the way
