What accessories can you not live without?
I just got my first smoker (30" Masterbuilt gasser), and have done some turkey, and my first batch of ribs over the weekend.
Thought I'd see what accessories everyone here loves. Santa is coming in a few weeks, and if I haven't been too bad, I may put a few things on the list. So far I'm pretty light on accessories, but I do have the ET-732 therm set. What else does a new smoker gotta have? |

Lots of gloves (high temp food handling, welding, nitrile). A good collection of rubs. Rib racks. Standard BBQ tool kit (tongs, large spatula, etc). Grate cleaner (I like the Weber T-Brush). Thermapen.

I have some fancy toys: DigiQ temp controller, thermapen, spitjack injector and they're nice to have, but I love my bear claws for pulled pork. That's the only one I'd really miss.

I agree about the gloves... I use them the most. I have a set for working the fire, a set for handling hot food, and then a box of the disposable nitrile gloves for handling raw meat.
Some large disposable aluminum pans come in pretty handy too. Edited to add: a large cutting board!

I use tons of Al roasting pans from sams club when I cook. they are so cheap they come in handy for many uses...
That said, I'd agree with the above comments about gloves. I have some welding gloves that are extremely heat resistant that are great, but the rubber high temp ones are so good for food handling, pulling meats, etc. That and a good pair (or 3) of silicone tongs.

A good cooking thermometer. I'm not even sure that should be considered an accessory.

You spelled beer wrong
Joking...a set of garden gloves for handling charcoal and grill racks is really helpful. And I do agree with above...you need a decent knife and a nice big cutting board to work on. I wish I had a better platter to put the finished ribs on for serving... |
