Same thing happened on my lang on the first fire. Admittedly, my fire was way too. It was a long time ago, but I think I was up over 350

Ive read of many guys that sand them down and season the firebox like a cast iron pan. I have seen a few pictures. When done, they look real nice. One guy did it with mineral oil. I just got mine and the paint hasn't peeled yet, but i see it coming.

The metal expands and contracts. It will flake off. Have a wore brush ready and brush off and rust or paint flakes and spray the firebox with pam. Lemon pledge on the cooker outside and Pam on the firebox. She'll look great

Yes, this thread is a bit old. It would be nice to know how things turned out though, the OP seemed happy with MeadowCreek's response.
