I know it's a little early to discuss the Royal but we have been thinking we might hit it this year.
Any advice as to when a team that has never cooked there should enter?

We're planning on going this year for the first time as well. So you think if we wait til' the deadline to enter it will be too late?

If so, how do you decide some of the stuff they ask you on the application? Bales of straw, Porta john etc.? I've heard people talk about it on here before, but it might help to get the conversation going again.
 
I'd for sure bring a lock for your smoker...
 
Maybe a guard dog then... As idiots have been known to steal raw meat right off a smoker...

You can do an add on order later - if you know you are going to do it, don't wait til the deadline. I believe the last handful of years, they've had waiting lists and had to turn teams away. They only have room for so many teams and that number shifts a bit based on the size of spaces past competitors sign up for. Past competitors have first priority over new competitors if they sign up by X date.

Hey don't sign up too quick. Maybe we can split a port-a-let if we're set up next to each other.
I'll talk with Shotgun and see when we will be putting in for it.
 
Royal price increase

Has anyone noticed the big price increase on the spots at the Royal? We always get a "B" sized spot (20 x 50) last year it was $350. This year its $450. :eek: Thinking about just doing the invitational and skipping the open. I can understand a $20 -$30 increase, but a $100 come on. Think if they do this a couple years in a row. :eek::eek: how long until it hits $1000 to enter? Just venting.
 
It's all about the money Chris. That is what the upper wonks have told me. It doesn't matter about the cooks, they will just go out and find more... That is the main reason they will never get any money from me... Although, I have given the Invitational some thought. But I would want to be able to pull my RV out and park it somewhere and come back for the Saturday night party!!! And not cook the Open...

You know a security guy....that works cheap. Parking is an easy problem to solve. Next question?
 
Jorge, do you really know a place to park an RV for AR weekend? I was going to look into the casino's down there. but if it's too much trouble, I'll go back to Gallatin or Kentucky....

As I really hate not seeing friends at this contest, because of the attitude of the upper wonks.

The place is DEAD on Sat night. About 1/10 of the people from Friday night are there. Should be able to put it in a lot somewhere around there and then you could sleep in it that night. I don't know where they put the "Invitational Only" people but I bet it is nowhere near your old location.

that's not such a bad thing not being in my old location Chris... :roll: but hopefully, they have changed some things around and they don't have a huge party right in the middle of the Invitational teams...
 
As of now I'm going to sign to sign up for the invitational but not the open. Still not sure I can even swing the invitational but would rather have the option closer to the date. I guess I'll get a letter or something as with the GAB?
