Or east...

Vinny, I'm not sure where it started but a toast with a shot of Jack (or your preferred poison) has been a tradition at comps around here since I started attending comps three years ago.

If I am close enough to the action (usually meaning Ulcer Acres, Cancer Sucks or Smokin' Clones), I am in.

Today's 11:00 a.m shot is similar to the Reece's peanut butter cup. (peanut butter and chocolate).

Like many great things two irresistible forces were at play on a parallel course, which for unknown cause crossed at the perfect time.

In the corn fields of Iowa there was a secret lab working on perfecting a device which became know as a clonecycle. ( a block of ice with a bottle of gentleman jack frozen inside.)

At the same time in the official drinking pens in the mountains of the Rockies, the RMBBQA began gathering together at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate low and slow cooking and the art of bbq cuisine with a shot.

Soon the two converged and the official 11:00 a.m. shot was born. It is has become the essence of the KCBS pre turn in ceremony to celebrate this sport. At every official ceremony a toast is made to all the competitors and to the competition, and may my team be the last called to the stage.

So next Saturday at 11:00 a.m. I will be in the Rockies and I will drink the "official shot" which must have a toast to great competition to all of you.

Thanks for the story Merl.....
I enjoy carrying on the tradition, and yes, it has to be frozen cold!

Traditionally there were shots a 7 (for Old # 7) and 11 (for 11 years old). Of course the Jack Daniels is for luck in getting to the Jack. So not just any whiskey will do.

I'm always in. Our camp bucks tradition and uses Cabo Wabo.

Son of a ..... no wonder we never win. From now on I will do my part to keep this tradition alive. Hell I might tell everyone to face the north and drink to Scotty D.

I love the Smell of BBQ in the morning.
I knew I'd seen that hat somwhere before. It would have been funny if I could get Robert Duvalls picture here :icon_blush: (Appocolypse Now Mod)
