Default Do you have a Kidde extinguisher? It's likely recalled!

I couldn't find this mentioned here, and if it has been, it bears repeating on every forum I'm a member of:

If you have a small Kidde extinguisher, going way back to the 70's, it's likely under a recall.

If you've registered your equipment, you may have gotten a little bit of mail from them that looked like junk and tossed it.

You can check yours here.

It's easy to contact them over the phone :1-800-880-6788 or through the web site. They will mail out replacement units if yours is determined to be under the recall and you may or may not be asked to mail the defectives back, at Kidde's cost.

I did use one of their recalled units, before I knew about the recall and it 100% failed to function. The nozzle shot off of it hard enough to leave a ding in some outdoor wood furniture I have, it let out a little fart of white powder and then nothing, so I thought it was worth mentioning this in all of the forums I'm a member of.

It's a little unsettling thinking about what could have happened if things wouldn't have gone "Just so," when I tried to use the one I did.

Safety first and third!

The recall was issued in November, 2017 and was mentioned back then...

Still good info, however.

Well, so it was!

I wonder why that thread didn't pop up when I searched for "Recall," a few minutes ago.

Both of mine were on the recall, and they sent me two new ones.

I checked both of mine (fairly new) against the recall and I'm good.

I have a bunch of those. USAA brings one to every insurance visit, so over the last couple of years between hail, an old copper pipe, and a failing water heater I've collected them.

Hadn't caught up with this, checked the one in the kitchen and it's one of the recalled ones. Filled out the form and waiting on the replacement. Thanks for resurrecting this.

A division of our firm sells, inspects, services and repairs fire extinguishers. Some years back, Kidde sold a low end, fairly good, inexpensive fire extinguisher. However, today they sell cheap, cheaply made extinguishers. They are marketed primarily through the big box retail stores and diy stores. The easiest way to tell the quality of a fire extinguisher is by the main valve. That’s the valve between the trigger and the main cylinder. It is black plastic instead of metallic brass. Extinguishers that have plastic valves are primarily sold for use in homes, cars, boats and other low end recreational products. The code for commercial and industrial installations does not recognize any extinguisher with a plastic valve.

I hope this information is helpful to any brethren needing a fire extinguisher.
