Default All charcoal all the time

Without getting too verbose, for a few years, all I had for flame cooking was a charbroil gasser. A couple months ago I bought a WSM to get back into l&s cooking and love it. Then decided I didn't want to have to worry about keeping enough of two different fuels onhand. Loved the WSM so much I knew the gas was going away. After searching CL for a while without luck, today I bought a 18.5" Weber OTS "Budlight". It hadn't been used, but there were some paint chips on the rim of the lid(opposite the logo). I bought it anyway. Put the gasser curbside w/a sign saying free and it was gone before I knew it.

Well, here it is next to its cousin who(at the time) was warming up for some pork lovin.

IMHO with those two you can cook anything (except a whole pig). Good luck with them.

Once I discovered a chimney stater and got a Kettle, my gas grill sat for a year before I sold it with it never used once. Have smoked on the Kettle for a couple years and just ordered a custom smoker to give me more smoking area. Don't plan on ever going back. Starting the coals gives me time to prep the food ;)

thanks for the support folks-
williamj-my thoughts as well
peeps-similar experience. I like the ease of gas, but the flavor of charcoal. Didn't know about chimneys when I went to my gasser. Learned about chimneys while researching smokers and using the WSM. did some more looking and realized the time savings regarding gas/charcoal can be negated w/a chimney.

plus, if all you need is one patty cooked, just toss a grate over the chimney and you're good

I know the feeling.

Now you will be trying out all kinds and brands of charcoal. Briquettes, lump etc....

I love the taste of charcoal cooked food, and for those people who say they don't have time to mess with charcoal and lighting the coals, I say you're too D^mn busy. Grab a beverage, slow down, and enjoy life.

I gave my 22 Weber away to my brother when I got another smoker. Regret it every time I think about it. I just need to get another one

Hey, mrbill...
If you kept the tank from that thing, you can get a torch (weedburner) attachment (cheap ones are only about $20). Since we started using that instead, we haven't touched a chimney...

I know you don't want to "worry" about keeping two fuels around, but you can always fall back on the chimney. Ohhh... it's also really FUN to start fires with raging torch
