NORTH KANSAS CITY MISSOURI Championship, 3/13
This is our first time at this event.
We were told that there will be no electricity and to bring a generator if we need power. Are we going to be the ugly neighbors if we run a generator (Honda 1000, pretty quiet) for our rotisserie? Or are they correct in telling us that lots of people have them running? Who is attending?

All you can hear at 2am in the morning is the hum of about 70 generators running through out the contest. You may be ugly, but it won't be because you are running a gen set! Besides, that is a pretty quiet unit. There will be much bigger, much louder, much more obnoxious ones running than yours.
We'll see ya there.

We ran an old Robins-Subaru 3500W genset our first year there... it was quieter with the rattletrap muffler off
But did sound great reverberating off the highrise there... Luckily we had a big AMP and good tunes to drown it out You will be fine there.... good luck!!

The garbage truck at 4am will wake you before the generators do. Good luck.

we went last year and had a honda generator, saw the neighbors gen and offered our gen to keep the neighborhood a little quieter. if you have good neighbors they offer to help pay for gas and then everyones happy.

We will not have a generator, If by some stroke of luck I happen to be near one of you fine gentlemen. Would it be possible to plug in a Guru to one of your generators??? I can deal with no lights. But will need somethning for the Guru!! Help!!! Hope to meet some of you guy's out there.

We had been looking at alternatives to having to pay for electricity at events and came up with a solution that worked well for us considering that we have very small power needs during a competition.
It's a 600 watt rechargable powerpak. They come in sizes ranging from 200 watt to 1500 watt but the 600 watt was at the right price ($100 at the time, now $130 via Amazon with free shipping). Our first test with it last season was at the Taylor, AZ competition and it ran a Stoker with four 10 CFM fans for the entire event. We had wired power available at the event so we ran our two small lights, radio and fan off of that source. We now keep it as a dedicted unit so that our Stoker power is separate. We did end up buying a 1000 watt Honda EU1000i generator, but that was later -- until we found out we'd been drawn for the Jack, with no power options, it was hard to pull the trigger for an item we might not not use more than a couple of times each year. The rechargeable 12V option was, for the interim, a better way to go.

Ahh Roo I judged that contest a few years ago. it was fun the number of certified judges to celb judges is crazy. way to many people that have done it for years that are not certified. it however is a fun contest to judge I wish I could cook it. I have a big Catering Job it seems now. They book a year in advance and are good to me so it is a no brainer.
