Well... the new OK BBQ cook-off I am planning for next July won't be happening at the USPS training center in Norman. This is actually a good thing. I had planned to organize this competition as a charity to benefit the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Federal law prohibits "fund-raising" on federal property. So I had dropped that out of my proposal and pitched the event strictly as a showcase for the training facility.
Word from on high at the USPS is that they for see "too many hurdles". So that is out... BUT, I just talked to the Cleveland County Fairgrounds and they are very interested in talking to me about it. I'm reviving it as a charity event and they love the whole idea. I get to tour the grounds and talk to the Fair Board president tomorrow after work.
