Little update:
I was finally able to fabricate a stainless steel lid with hinges, ive also purchased a perforated stainless steel grate, i just have to weld a frame around the grate.

Complete at last. Built the frame around the grate, rubbed coconut oil all over all raw steel and built a small fire to coat everything in smoke.

Mind. Blown.

I haven't posted to the Brethren in about 2 years. I've been gone, but have kept busy building new pits for friends and family, doing some charity cooks for an adoptive family I know, and otherwise loving BBQ culture. But this....this is amazing. I started off tonight searching the interwebs for some backyard brick pit builds. I stumbled onto this thread, and just spent the last hour marveling at this build. Best Brethren read since the original UDS thread. Bravo. Amazing......

That is one heck of an amazing build. You should be darn proud of that! I am hoping to build a pit for a Santa Maria style grill next spring. I will be looking back on this thread for sure! What a beauty.
