Stuck Weber Vents
Rescued an older OTS 22 from my pops a while back and trying to get her back to her former glory. Cooked on it for the first time tonight after getting an inital power wash and scrub down. Two of the three lower vents are stuck shut with one stuck open. Anyone have some tips on how to get these operational again without destroying them?

Did you hit it with penetrating oil already? Sometimes a light hit with a torch will break em loose.

Spray well with WD-40 inside and out, let it sit overnight then start sliding each vent back and forth until they move freely.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll have to give them a shot this weekend. If the veggie oil doesn't work I'll go with wd40 or another type of penetrating oil/degunker spray.

PB Blaster will probably be more effective than WD-40

I have one grill that has been in use since 1979. Whatever you do, do not bend the vents. They will never be the same. If the vents are bolted on, remove the bolts and soak the daisy wheels to clean. Drill out the rivets, if they are used, and replace them. Stainless steel nuts and bolts are cheap.

If these methods don't free the vent cover, just drill out the rivet and replace it with a bolt and lock nut. That's what Weber will send you if you order replacement vent covers.

the redhead i just picked up had tight daisy wheels. sprayed a little wd40 last night and broke em loose. there is one that wont close all the way shut though. thinking i may leave it that way. worst case---drill out the rivets and remove the wheels and thoroughly clean everything and reinstall with SS hardware :)

A little known but effective trick is wax.Yes ordinary candle wax.I didn't believe it until I tried it.Heat the area then apply wax on the fastener. It should be hot enough to liquify the wax.

If you use the penetrating blaster, be sure to do a good hot burn to get rid of the smell. It works well, but boy, oh boy, what a smell.
