Mark your calenders May 4/5, 2013 is the dates for PGB 2013. Curt McAdams started this years ago through a outreach at the Vineyard Church in downtown Dayton, Ohio for the poor and the homeless and has grown each year into something special to be part of. Over the years we have had Brethren and friends come from Michigan, Ill., Wisconson, Pa., Tenn., Ky., Indiana, Canada. One year we cooked 1,200 lb of meat overnight to be given away as sandwiches with drink, chips and cookies. by doing a search on here for PGB you will see many of pictures that show the good time we have by doing a good thing for a town in Ohio.

Me too.
For one reason or another, I've not been able to make it for the past 2 years. Hopefully THIS year I can make it down there.

Thanks for posting!

Brethren are known to be ironic, too. This yearly Dayton BBQ developed from a Brethren request for a Community outreach - before a non-profit organization known as Operation BBQ Relief was created last year... by another BBQ Brother.

Since OBR; three Brethren who cooked at Dayton also responded to OBR's call when natural disaster's hit close to home.
BBQ Bubba - Michigan.
The Pigman - Ohio
The BBQ Bandit - PA

As mentioned earlier - a pit is not required when called to higher purpose.

For the sake of event planning, communication, and visibility; a facebook page was created - https://www.facebook.com/groups/PGBBQ2012/

This has turned into a very nice time in downtown dayton for the group. i do believe last year we had the most sitting up most of the night cooking and the most help we ever had from the church. If you are looking for a way to give back this year here is a way to do it. It has come a long way since 2008

Some good news... I'm no longer banned from this site during work hours (now I just have to find the time to get here more often!).

2013 is going to be even better. Where before there have been 2-3 of us doing the bulk of the organizing, I'll have different men in charge of different aspects. One will be in charge of getting people to pull pork on Sunday, another will be in charge of lining up guys to help all of you set up and tear down. Another will be in charge of guys to help throughout the cook.

I'm talking to a local chef to see if she'll come out to give us a charcuterie lesson, if you guys would like that. She does amazing work, and, even though she's local, she's had national press throughout her career (James Beard award winner). I don't know if she'll be able to, but I thought that would be very cool if she or one of her chefs could do something like that. Someone is also going to be doing nothing but event communication to get word out even more.

If there's anything you all would change about previous years, let me know... I can't address it otherwise, and we want to keep making this better!

This isn't a huge Operation BBQ Relief event like they did for the hurricane victims, but it is a HUGE impact in the community.

That sounds good the one thing last year that made a difference for those coming to cook is more help setting up and tearing down and during cook. We do appricate the cleaning of our equipment and the assistance during the cook esp. me. We had a new group assiting last year with some of the old and had a good time.

Id love to come help out if my schedule allows it...My schedule changes frequently so I cant forcast my days off as of right now. Go Bucks

I have put out a request to form a contengency of Great Lakes BBQ Association members to take part in this years event. Will keep you posted on how things progress.

Thanks

Getting some positive feedback from some of our membership, hopefully we will be able to put a group together to travel down and participate again.

I hope to see at LEAST OH (of course), MI, IL, WI and PA... + Ontario and several other states thrown in!

I hope I can fulfill the WI contingency.

If any of my Badger Brothers are interested in making the trip, PM me and we'll see what we can work out.

I would also like to have a little more information on the event. like what we need to bring or purchase such as meat, wood, charcoal, etc. and lodging.

Awesome, glad I happen to come across this. I think I've even been to the Vineyard before, I'll definitely save the date.
