When I'm not smoking larger cuts, it easily becomes a great grill. I think every BBQ enthusiast should build themselves a UDS.
We had a few homemade hamburgers tonight with my awesome family.

I have a grate mounted about 6 or 7 inches above my basket that I use for placing a terra cotta flower pot base full of sand for a heat deflector when smoking a brisket or chickens. It doubles as a hot grill for steaks or burgers when needed. UDS's can be quite versatile.

Blessings,
Omar

I agree, I can get both my UDS's to well over 700 degrees when/wanted and I can put the coal basket on top of my lowest grate and set another grate on that to sear meat. Versatile.

I love my UDS also. It cruises at just about any temp you want and it stays there, unlike my old stick burner that needed constant attention. I use it as a grill all the time. I put a rack in the middle and just move the fire basket up when its time to get hot. Works great.
