Curing a smoker

I don't think a WSM need to be cured. I just started cooking with mine with no problems at all.

Don't know much about a Brinkmann vertical. Others on here do though.

I sprayed the inside of mine with vegetable oil (spray pam). Loaded some wood, got temps up to 300 degrees for about 3 hours. During this time I shut chimney damper nearly closed. Shut firebox vents nearly closed and let it smoke away; creating a smoke glaze on the inside. I did this 3 nights in a row while I smoked cigars, drank beer and enjoyed the aroma of hickory smoke!

Best way to Cure a WSM is to cook on it. The more build-up the tighter it gets. The main reason to cure a smoker is to clog the tiny pores that are present in barrel type steel smokers. Not an issue with WSM - porcelin (sp?) lined!!

The problem is I don't remember how you guys told me to do it. When I finally finish my UDS. I will need to ask again. I should have the UDS finished in the next 6 months.:-D

6 months. That soon?

What do you think the over/under is on this?
