Default Ugly red Weber with wood handles..time for chop shop

Hey guys, relatively new to the forum!

I have been looking for a 18.5" kettle to make my own custom version of a WSM. So i finally found one and picked this kettle up today from a guy and was hoping for a nice clean black 18.5" 1-touch and he walks out of the garage with this ugly thing. So i want to yank the handles, blast the kettle down to bare metal, cut the lid and kettle to accommodate my plans and then repaint it.

What's the best method to strip this thing?

Sell it to me, take the proceeds and go get the one you want. Don't strip or mutilate that beauty.....please!!

I was just messing with you guys, i would never alter this beauty!

I just wanted to share my latest CL score. I have been looking for a 18.5" kettle to do my own version of a WSM with a hint of UDS built into it. So i finally found one on CL after much searching. I show up expecting the typical black kettle that has not seen any love since the day it came out of the box. But then the guy walked around the corner with this beauty!! Was i shocked to say the least....the best part....i got it for $20 bucks!!!

So below are some photos. Would love to know what year it is and what they typically go for (not selling it, just curious for my own reference if i see another one for sale).

Also, it has 3 quarter size booboos on the exterior. How do i fix them and should I?

i would leave the boo boos, they add character, but i'd get some of them awesome handles that.....uh....martyleach makes and of course replace the grates, when ya do get the hinged top grates, best grate for the money.

Got a linky for those handles?

I'm thinking of using this as my daily cooker if i can put my new Weber table on it and then turn my 1-touch gold into my smoker project....or just sell that and buy a WSM:

Do they make the hinged grates like i have on my 1-touch gold, but for the 18.5" kettle?
