A friend of mine and I stumbled across a vertical offset a few years ago. For giggles, we entered a small competition after having cooked on it for about 2 months. The results were pretty brutal. As far as I know, none of the judges got sick from what we handed in.

We took a year off and then started back up. Practice, practice, practice! We made our triumphant return to the previously mentioned competition and snagged a 1st and two 3rd place ribbons! From there, Big Iron BBQ was born! :-D

The name Big Iron was inspired by our smoker as well as an old Marty Robbins cowboy song.

In lieu of our recent good fortune, we are going to enter a few more events this year and see how we hold up. During planning, we discussed the possible need for an additional smoker. Since this is still "just for fun", I wasn't looking to drop a ton on a new or used smoker. So, I'm here with the goal of building a UDS and stealing some good chicken recipes. I'll post pics if I manage to pull this off! thanks!
