You may or may not be familiar with the NBBQL from the videos and contests we did last year. The idea is for some of the top teams to compete against each other to settle it “on the court” so to speak while also providing content to help newer teams out and to draw back the curtain on some of the mystique in competition BBQ.

To that end, we announce our latest event. It will be a 12 team event sanctioned by KCBS as competitor series. We will be cooking the 4 main meats and turning them in for blind judging, but that is where the similarities to a “normal” event end.

We will all be cooking under a big circus style tent out of 10x10s. Nowhere to hide! We will have Megan and Jason Day from Burntfinger BBQ acting as hosts and emcees getting thoughts and reactions from cooks, judges and fans. The scores will post live as they come in. The video feed and scores will be projected to TV screens placed around the event. We are really anticipating a high energy, action packed 2 hours more akin to a sporting event than a traditional BBQ contest.

This will all take place on Friday March 15th from noon to 3pm (first turn in is at 1pm). We will be right up against the Sprint Center in downtown Kansas City during the big 12 basketball tournament.

If you can make it, we’d love to see a big BBQ crowd turn out to support us in addition to the basketball fans that will already be wandering through. You can’t make it to the Sprint Center on a Friday afternoon? No worries! This will all be broadcast live through the National Barbecue League YouTube channel!

This should be a lot of fun and potentially a new way to generate interest in the “sport” we all love. I hope you will support us by showing up or tuning in! We have 5 other events planned for the year including a little Fantasy BBQ action for the events later this year with plenty of prizes on the line!

Announcements will be made on our Facebook page and duplicated in this forum. You can follow us on YouTube to see everything that the National Barbecue League has cooking including many exclusive tips & tricks!
