Time for an upgrade
Brethren,
Around 7 years ago, my wife gave me the wonderful gift of an offset smoker. It has been a good smoker but badly needs replaced soon. Looking into Yoder, Horizon, and Jambo Jr.(backyard model). The real issue is I live in San Diego, so must ship no matter what. Unless... Does anyone know of any places in SoCal where you can purchase a good smoker? or Custom builder? Any reviews anyone would like to share on the three smokers I mentioned? |

I'm a Big Green Egg fan but really like the Traegers too. take a look at the list of retailers at this link - http://www.traegergrills.com/dealers/
I know most sell other brands too. |

The ONE
I would encourage you to visit pitbarrelcooker.com
Watch the videos. 269$ free shipping. It will be your go-to smoker/grill in short order. You will have plenty of $$$$ remaining for a yuppie cooker, a cow or three pigs. I was in Albq NM the other day playing golf and donating to the Native American Casino's. in the parking lot at Buffalo Thunder a trailer with four wheelers and a pit Barrel Cooker was being transported to or from a camping trip. Made me homesick. I love my PBC. You will too.

Of the three listed I would go with the Jambo Jr. imo. Not sure if you have looked into Lang? Have never cooked on one but they seem pretty popular.

Also forgot to mention in my previous post. I'm not sure if he ships pits or not but get ahold of TuscaloosaQ from the forum here. Building himself quite a reputation for building a heck of a pit for a good price.

I remember a thread a few months back from a member in Ca asking an opinion on a pit built in Ca. but I can't remember the name of the poster or the pit mfg. there was a link in the post to the builders site and it was a decent pit for the $.

I'm not "saying" I'm "screaming" at the top of my qwerty keyboard.
Pit Barrel Cooker works. Patio Hero time farkers. Oh, and I spent 219.00 free shipping. I had a Kingsford discount coupon PSS: glad you found some matches ;-)

and I don't think I said an UDS is a bad option, but if you are going to pay 219$ to have someone build you an "Ugly Drum Smoker" then you should maybe consider at least getting one that will be pretty. if you were to pay 20$ for a barrel on craigslist, 30$ to get it sandblasted and 139$ from big poppa smokers to buy their kit, and then spend 20$ on paint at lowes, and you will have a bigger, better, and Prettier UDS, at the cost of maybe 2 hours of your time assembling it using very easy to follow instructions. and you would have saved 30$ over the discounted price of your smaller smoker. that's right 30 dollars less for a functionally identical but bigger, and prettier smoker, WITH a bottle opener built in. |

The size is a bonus. Easily transported. I'm not a yuppy so the majority of my beer consumed has a twist off cap. My wedding ring easily removes the cap off a Moose Drool. It's just the bride and me. While the pit barrel can only handle 50-75# of meat at a time, it's more than enough for two.
Support a veteran, buy American. Yup- that's the Pit Barrel Cooker. Peace out. Wife just walked in with a 30 pack of Miller Lite, some limes and spicy V-8.
