My first build after a week of reading 600+ pages on this thread. 3 3/4" nipples with caps, 1 3/4 ball valve, 1 cap open valve fully shut holds temps at 220°. Did first cook in balmy Canadian winter weekend (-20°C, -4°F) and smoked beautifully, will paint once the weather warms up.

UDS build. Dumpster diving for the drum. The weber lid and grill donated. Only grilled in the past, bought a smoker box to put in grill and liked it, so this is next step. Have to admit, first two cooks on it a bit shaky, the smoke taste is a bit overpowering. I only put in a hand full of wood chips. Keep trying and reading on this forum!

Beauties! First time I've seen a thermo on an exhaust. Not sure I understand why.

It is Mark Hunsaker's design. When I first saw it on his website, I asked the same question, but after having used them and monitored grate temps, they are the real deal!

Today I got my weed burner via ups and torches the ever living bejesus out of my drum and lid. I don't have any sand paper so I tried using newspaper....... lucky me mom cane over to see her grand babies and said"Why don't you just use tin foIL if you don't want to buy sand paper?" Holy crap..... mom is smart. It worked great. But still I will be getting some sand paper.

New to the forum and UDS's. Here's my work in progress. Almost ready to season and get to smoking, just have a few finishing touches.
