Default American Royal open 2013

Does anyone know what the story is with the Royal this year? At one time there was a thread about judging and team entries here on the Brethren. However it ended up that the application was just for judging. Then on the A.R. website it said applications in early March, early March came then nothing. Then the website said apps in early April. Needless to say this is May even though I have snow on the ground. Now the website says coming soon.

So I am just wondering is there anything going on or is this pretty typical? At this point it is a longshot that I will be able to enter but i would like to plan ahead for next year if this delay on entries is typical. My wifes vacation deadline request is tomorrow so I dont see how I can manage it this year with not knowing how much everything is going to cost, to see if we can even manage it.

We have entered the last 3 years and have never been able to sign up before the 2 or 3rd week of May!

This is interesting.

I tanked my brisket and pork at Gothenburg, and the next KCBS isn't until late Sept. in Omaha. I would love to do the Royal, especially since I'm taking the Plowboy's class.

Are you talking no more KCBS for you until Sept? There are quite a few more sanctioned comps around here before Septemberfest and RCR.

Yes.

I have already put a plan in place. Just to ease ourselves into KCBS. Doubling the amount of KCBS comps per year. However, my sponsor loves the idea of us going to the AR.

We will do the RCR. We have much learning to do. 12th ribs,12 th chicken, 29th pork, and 37 brisket ain't gonna cut it. A class is ordered.

Just my $.02, but I would do a KCBS comp as soon as possible after the class. It helps to make what you learned part of your routine. Some of the best things I got out of my class were tips for organization and time savings.

We will probably see you at RCR.

They have about 6 different spot sizes you can get. The cheapest is 225 but it goes up well into the 1,000s. The 20x20 or 25x20 spot is 225. Can't remember the exact size. My team got a 25x40 for $450. Its a great contest to have a sponsor!

Thanks for the info. I knew it would be a pricey event. Not too far from it distance wise, don't know if i'm ready for an event like that but I have wanted to it for quite some time.
