Best BBQ joint in Detroit (Southfield)???
Looks like I may be headed to the Detroit area for a few days in late Sept/early Oct.
My company acquired a competitor w/ corporate office in Southfield, MI.. Can anyone recommend a good BBQ place ? My director put me in charge of finding one as he will be with me. He's originally from GA so he's a BBQ fanatic too. Same guy that I went with to Virgil's BBQ in NYC two weeks ago when the new company's team from their England division visited. I did a quick Google search and came up with these from AOL City Guide. 1.The Bone Yard Restaurant Livonia 2.Memphis Smoke Royal Oak 3.The Original Pointe Bar-B-Que Detroit 4.Mama's Place Detroit 5.Back in the Day Soulfood Ferndale 6.Urban Wings & Co.West Bloomfield 7.Clubhouse Barbecue Ferndale I'm guessing that some of these are not all that good and may be others even better within in a reasonable driving distance. Anyone have recommendations ?

I'll check with some of my co-workers in that area and we'll see what they say, Vinny.

I grew uo in the D. All I can say is Royal Oak is a rich burb, take that FWIW.
I gotta say most joints closer to downtown would prolly be good. I'll make some calls. The D isn't much known for BBQ. DIDN'T WE HAVE A BRO IN THE D WITH A Q RESTUARANT???????????? SOMEBODY DO A SEARCH

Vinny,
I used to work in Southfield, if you dont mind let me know where at in Southfiled and I might be able to recommend some other restaraunts as well. As for Q, of the places that you have listed, I have only been to Memphis Smoke. It is not bad, and as Pimpsmoke said Roay Oak has become the "trendy" burb of Detroit. It has great nightlife and a lot of good restaruants. Memphis Smoke has live blues bands almost every night and the q is edible. It is not going to be as good as what you make at home but it is as good or better than something along the lines of Famous Daves. You cant beat the atmoshpere if you like the whole Blues and BBQ thing, which I love!!!

Thanks guys...
Deni - Am I correct that your place is not a sit down place ? That's fine by me, but I'm assuming we'd be going out for dinner as a small group and they may not be as open to take out. SpiderMike - not sure of exactly where in Southfield. The company we acquired is J&L Industrial. They have a corp office in Southfield.

That offer is for any bbq brethren anytime. We are not a sit down place but we do have picnic tables outside. There is a J&L Industrial right up the street from me on Groesbeck Hwy. in Roseville so if you go by there you are more than welcome to stop by. The only other place I would take you to would be a place called Slow's. It's in my opinion the closest thing that comes to good bbq.
