I'll try that on mine. I've got to balance the meat in each basket, so it has a smooth rotation.

Careful when you lower it so that it doesn't bang into the skewer when going around.

There is work doing it that way though. I welded a 3/16" round bar around the inside of the kettle and two strips around the outside to create a flat surface to sit on the drum.
