I own a Trager Pro Series 34. In the dark, I tried to remove the top grate. I never had a problem until last night. It was a real pain in the ass. The grate came off, but I didn't notice this until after I shined the flashlight on it.

Any idea what this piece sticking up is? I have never seen this piece before. And as I said, never had an issue when removing the top rate.

The unit was not damaged. Temps were fine. No issues with closing the cover.

Any ideas?

That seems to be the consensus. I'll straighten it out when the amoker cools down

I ran some temps checks and it seems to be working fine. I'm afraid that if I attempt to straighten it that I'll make it worse, or snap it. So for now, I'm going to leave it as is.

I wouldn't straighten it out...I'd replace it.
Call Traeger and get another one. They're not difficult to replace.
In the future be mindful of it. It's a key component. Essentially it's the thermostat for the controller.
 
These are thermocouples. I would stay safe and get one from the manufacturer as they have been tested with the controller. Not all are the same and while it may work, it may not be correct.

I just placed the order on amazon. It'll be here tomorrow

I am very mechanically inclined. Was it easy to replace?
