That was the hottest I've been since I rode my bicycle through Death Valley several years ago. :mad2: I was so burned out by Saturday at 7:30 PM that I had to bag the Sunday MIM-style event. Staggered over to the Marriott, took a shower, dealt with my, er, chafing (yes George I forgot the Gold Bond) and slept for 10 hours straight. We were super happy with the chicken call and a top ten finish in that field. On our little side street alone we had two KCBS Teams of the Year (current and one former), the reigning MABA Team of the Year, the reigning MIM Champion, the 2008 DC BBQ Battle RGC, and the reigning Pork in the Park Grand Champion. And that was just our little side street! Aside from some load in drama and the searing heat it was a great time and we are already looking forward to 2011.

11th pork and brisket is nothing to sneeze at in that crowd either. Congratulations!

Great showing! Sorry you had to cancel the MIM event. That contest convinced me I need a trailer with A/C......

Probably a newbie question but what do all the *'s mean next to most of the team names? First time I've seen this. Sounds like every team, considering the heat and level of competition, need a hearty "Thata Boy (or Girl)!" Congrats!

I have no idea. They were on the KCBS list and I just copied and pasted... I looked on the results page but saw no reference to them what-so-ever.

I was just too lazy to delete them off of each line.

Tell me about it!! We didn't bring the trailer based on the extra space cost and another reason I'll not air in the public forum (out of respect for the person who helped convince me not to). In retrospect I deeply regret that decision. Man I was in bad shape Saturday night when you guys walked past me on the way to the hotel. Felt 100% better on Sunday, though and the chicken call really made our day.

Once again, ribs got us. When you pick up a slab to move it and a bone slides out, then that is what I'd call "overcooked". I quit using a WSM so I could utilize the racks in my Onyx and get four racks in a single cooker. The Onyx has been working great for pork butts, so it's not the cooker. Nonetheless, I think I'm going to go back to the WSM and see how that works for me. Since I've got a 22.5" WSM, I'm considering the Ribolator so I can get four racks in without too much aggressive trimming/sizing.

Thanks! I feel like we're doing something right but at the same time know we've stikll got a lot to learn. It is fun, though!

Dan, I hear 'ya about the heat. You guys were pretty well hidden and I wasn't sure what you guys had for ventilation. One team in teh section closer to 14th St had a mister setup under their tent. had to be 10-15 degrees cooler in there.

It was a pleasure meeting you and your crew.

I've got more pictures that I'll post up as soon as I get them organized. Could not take the heat after 4:30 and my camera crapped out. Wish I could have grabbed more with finished product, but really enjoyed meeting a few of the brethren.
