Do any of you guys know a good, free software for organizing recipes? I tried the google, but surprisingly did not really come up with much. It does not have to be fancy...it just needs sort, organize, print, and work on Windows 7.

I use pepperplate.com

They have apps for the smartphones that sync with your account on the website too.
 
It's very good. They have an add-on for firefox and chrome that you can copy and paste recipes to a sidebar and it syncs to your recipe database as well.

So I have all my favorite Brethren recipes loaded up and at my hip. :-D
 
Another very very happy Pepperplate user over here.

Love the tagging do I can tag things like Rubs, Sauce, Ribs, Chicken.....

Love how it syncs with my iPhone and iPad also.
 
Does anyone have any experience with Abbeyy Fine Reader Home edition?
 
I use Evernote. It stores all your notes (recipes) in the "cloud" so you can get to them from your PC/MAC/PHONE/IPAD/TABLET etc. Very handy. Also you can take a picture of a recipe, and it will store that as a note, and also OCR the recipe so it is searchable later. Also it has a plug-in to your web browser so it can turn any web page in a note with one click.

I use it for everything from storing recipes, business notes, and stuff related to my old Packard.

I kind of do. It came with my scanner.

Also be careful with Evernote. One of the big problems I had was it turns everything into Evernote format, thus if you want to get your data you can't. I'm not saying itsn not a great program it is. Just be aware of that issue as it was a major one for me.
 
I use springpad, same idea as evernote.

I used to use evernote but really didn't like their Android app.
The cool thing about springpad is that it analyses the content that you are trying to save and if it thinks it's a recipe it will get just the ingredients and method without all the extra stuff on the page.

It works really well for most popular recipe and foodie sites as well as some of the not so popular ones.
 
I use Bigoven as it can be used on your iphone/ipad/web. It not only saves your recipes you also have a large cookbook.
 
Thanks guys - a friend of mine is looking for a way to manage the hundreds of recipes whe has collected over the years and wants to be able to scan them in and tag them with ley words based on ingredients she has at hand.
 
I know you said free but just wanted to mention Living Cookbook. I have the 2008 edition and it's really good. It lets you keep inventory, recipes, etc organized. I know I'm not using it to it's full potential - I pretty much just keep the recipes in there. It backs up real easy so you can put it on a flash drive for safe keeping. They have a free 30 day trial that you might give a shot.

Going start using Access becuase of the Database features. Currently Excel.
I have developed hundreds of templates. Only 1 that will work in volume measurements and converts it Batch weight and %. The rest are all in % and by weight.
