Talking Kamado Quail, Snapper, Tenderloin, Peppers & Zukes

On the weekend, Humpty the Copper Cooker, a rescued Kamado/BGE, starred in Cookouts #2 and #3 (since its Phase 1 repair). The clay pot had new cracks from the its second firing, but we went ahead and cooked anyways. Here's what was for dinner.

Roasted Peppers.

Beef tenderloin grilled medium-rare. These were EGGxcellent!

Sliced tenderloin and roasted peppers with balsamic vinegar and garlic. Mmmmm....

Grilled quail marinated with 5-spices powder, crushed chili, soy sauce and honey. A bit burnt, but very tender and tasty as appetizers.

Grilled zucchini and sweet onions.

Red snapper. 3lbs.

The very next day, Humpty got taken apart for Phase 2 repairs which are still ongoing. See Project Humpty.

The good thing is that Humpty still cooks good even when cracked.

Looks great. I repaired my ceramic with JB and have done 4 cooks since including 600 degree pizza and it has worked great. I'm going to do a new seal tomorrow.

Jacob, BigBro, OSD - Thanks guys. The quails were a big hit. I like the quails whole too. They're the nicest size. Guessing that 4-5 of them would make up a Cornish game hen. Always gets the guests interested and inspired. The thrill of eating delicious tiny little birds!

How's your JB surviving? Mine turned to powder in the firebox, so the firebox fell apart. The JB also started making little weld puddles in the dome. The specs say that it is "temperature resistant" only to 500F. I may have reached 600F briefly for a few minutes, but I've tried to keep it under 500F for the last 4 firings.
