Not too many BBQ recipes call for breading, meaning it will not go over well. Steve.

For KCBS, there is a rep advisory about it

Question: Can Chicken be breaded?
Opinion: At this point there is no rule against breading. It can be a part of a rub. Also, frying is
not illegal as long as the heat source is from charcoal or wood and NOT DEEP FRIED. (Rule #6
states: Parboiling and/or deep-frying competition meat is not allowed). February 17, 2006

That said, from what I hear, judges would probably not take kindly to it.

We've never turned it in but have cooked it at home a few time.
Added a little rub to some shake and bake then into the smoker.
Really pretty good and the kids love it.

That's why I asked. I saw that it's not against the rules, and I have done it to rave reviews. I was wondering if anyone had done it in competition
.

If I am remembering correctly, ask Guy. I'll see if I can find the post.

Even if you could get taste and tenderness, how would you present for appearance scores?

As a judge, I am a big fan of "different."

KCBS mission statement: Recognizing barbeque as America's Cuisine, the mission of the Kansas City Barbeque Society is to celebrate, teach, preserve and promote barbeque as a culinary technique, sport and art form.

If you think breaded chicken fits into that definition, go ahead and do it and let us know how it works for you.
