The old Chicago Cutlery knives were quite good, although 20 years ago was on the way down for them IMO. Still, I have a couple that are more around 50 years old that are still fine cutting tools. I did a quick look and there is no information easily found on who makes the Martha Stewart line of knives you reference, that is a bad sign. Most private labels makers still let you know who manufactures the knives if they are good blades.
That being said, any knife will be a good knife if it feels good to your hand, you take care of it and get it sharpened when needed. In todays world, if you are paying less than $50 a blade, you are buying a knife that is really not going to be a long term investment, go by feel and be happy with the set you buy.
