I just received my KCBS packet in the mail and wanted to head over to my local Restaurant Depot this weekend to pick up a few things.

I noticed on the KCBS site that you can copy a "coupon" to take to the Depot for a one-day shopping pass. Will I need to do this every time I go back or is it a one shot deal?

thanks,
fred

Well Fred, the two times I've gone to Restaurant Depot, they have given me a day pass good for that day only. I am an active KCBS member and was told by the staff at the Needham, MA store that they no longer give KCBS'ers a membership card. As long as I can get the day pass, I'm good with that. Even with a members card you still need to check in at the front desk, so getting the day pass doesn't take any longer.

You'll need to get the one day pass every time, but it takes about 2 minutes. Well worth the effort.

Just googled them and found that there is one about 45 miles from me. Is it worth the drive?

Just got a membership. I have a tax exempt cert. and it was accepted online. guess I'll drive down tomorrow and check it out.

Closest to me is 2 1/2 hours... gotta plan ahead for that trip... but WELL worth the time and effort.

Every store pays for the advertising mailers that are mailed to members. As soon as you get a "membership" card you start costing the store money. If you are are a low volume customer and don't spend thousands of dollars then it's not worth it to the store to give you a membership card.

That's okay with me, as long as I get the day pass. The more profitable they are, the lower thier prices.

Well I did drive down there today and have to say that I'm impressed. Hadn't planned on buying much cause I really just wanted to check it out. Spent over $200 anyway, and no meat.

Found some of their meat prices just so so and some good. Really big hunks though, and almost too big for two people. Will be great for parties. I think I will have to plan carefully when I go.

Thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

The secret is to keep yourself from overbuying your freezer... :-D

The store in Los Angeles gave me a membership card, it makes getting in a little bit quicker. So far I have not received any mailings from them. I have recovered my cost of membership on lump alone. There isn't a lot of stuff I need to buy in restaurant quantities.

Will KCBS send me a renewal notice when my year is up or do I need to track that?

Know what you mean on the freezer size, And I guess I was lucky cause I got my membership for free!:clap2::clap2:

I went to my local Restaurant Depot Saturday armed with my "one day" coupon and after reading it, the girl asked if I would just want a regular membership so I didn't have to get a one day pass each time. errr, sure.

So anyhow, I now have a regular membership with 2 cards for personal use that I just have to pay the taxes on. Not too shabby.

Although they were out of baby backs when I was there.
