Thinking back to my childhood here, but i think I've had possum prepared exactly like this.....and I'm betting that it tasted better than what this brisket may taste like.

Right on, bro! Hope I'm not offending the OP, but.... Yecch!
I've eaten a similar convoluted crock-pot concoction just once, at my son's Boy Scout camp-out. The scout leader had a brisket in a Dutch oven under the coals. Smelled and looked great, and I sure was hungry. I tried to like it, but it had a "wang" that I couldn't tolerate. Finally I asked how the meat was cooked. The secret ingredient? Lots of Dr. Pepper. Fine for drinking, but not as a primary cooking liquid IMO. Bleh!

That's hilarious.
Unfortunately, there is more than one "BBQ restaurant" around here whose products taste as if they used a similar method on pork. One of them catered our Thanksgiving lunch at work. I barely managed to force down a couple of sammiches of the stuff, but I heard at least one person say "that sure was some good bbq." The sad thing is that the BBQ joint that used to cater for us was IMHO one of the five best in the state. I gotta have a little talk with the girl who sets these lunches up. |

I hope you understand that I was jerking Donnie's chain like he is jerking ours with this entire thread. I am, after all, from Texas too.
