Default Slavinken - the Dutch history of MOINK balls..

Slavinken (Bacon Wrapped Pork Parcels)

Slavinken, i.e. ground meat wrapped in bacon, is a very traditional Dutch dinner dish, usually served with boiled potatoes and veggies. I've used fresh rosemary, thyme, basil and marjoram to flavor the filling. According to De Verstandige Kok (The Sensible Cook), which was originally published in Dutch in 1669, this mixture of herbs was so commonly used to flavor meat dishes back in the 17th century, that they were referred to as vleeskruiden (literally, meat herbs). I think the herbs lend a lot of flavor.

here the recipe:

and you will find all kinds of meat/spice combos for it..

some even mention using little birds wrapped in bacon..
probably in Belgium, where I remember seeing them selling little birds for consumption on the open air markets.. (they used to catch them with Glue sticks..)

The Dutch may have invented bacon wrapped meatballs, but according to the MOINK Charter, unless they also invented the pre-manufactured frozen meatball than they could not have invented the MOINK Ball.

sorry to spoil the fun a bit but 1669 refers only to the spice mix, i doubt meat was on the steady diet for the average guy.
if i recall school..potatoes, some 1 eared guy did a painting about that some time ago
