One of my regulars dropped by for lunch today. It turns out he used to be a knife maker. He took a tracing of my chef knife, and then presented me with this today as a gift! 100% Handmade.

Cocobolo handles and carbon steel blades!

That would be SHWEEET.

I'd buy one and have it mounted right nest to my K-BAR anniversary knives in a shadow box.

Very nice Joe. Do they cut as good as they look? What is cocobolo and where does it come from??

Cocobolo

One of the true tropical rosewoods, Cocobolo is a very beautiful wood, ranging from a beautiful rich dark brick red, to reddish or dark brown, with a figuring of darker irregular traces weaving through the wood. It is fine textured and oily in look and feel. The wood has excellent working characteristics and the natural oils give the wood a natural luster. Cocobolo is highly durable and strong, but, because of its scarcity and high value, it is used for its rare beauty rather than its strength or durability.

I'll check on it next time he comes in.
(Of course this would have to be cleared with Phil)

And yes they are sharp as hell. Carbon steel holds an edge better than just about anything.

Joe, Those are very beautiful knifes. I wonder what the value of them would be if that man sold them at a knife show. Several hundred dollars im sure.
