Default Your BEST box ever! (Winning turn-ins)

I've seen the "WORST Box Ever" thread , but I haven't seen a "BEST Box Ever" thread. Being kinda new at BBQ comps I was curious to see some of the Brethren's winning boxes. I'm sure some of y'all would love to brag and show off some of your winning turn-ins. IF I had one, I would start off... but I haven't had any calls ...yet.

Any takers?

Got that right!

They can be found, you just have to work at it like anything else in the craft.

Search for IQue and Ployboy's turn in boxes. I found a few of Ployboy's, they were
very nice, but frankly not magical. Meaning, look at boxes, critically. Greens, simple
nice backdrop to the BBQ, but not taking away from the BBQ. Clean. BBQ in there,
largely filling up the box. Nothing fancy, just good / clean / appetizing display. Then,
it's all about the BBQ.

Default Keep lookind and you'll find it...yup

Thanks y'all for your honest replies. I can see now (after searching a little harder ) that this subjects' been well covered.

For the benefit of the rookie competitors and search-challenged, here's what I found:

http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=52980

http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/sh...ght=turn+boxes

http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/sh...0&postcount=26 (check out the Am Royal thread)

...and you'll find a ton of good threads here

Finally, I thought this was som great advice:

I can get decent Appearance scores and will ask for critiques and something a Brethren might point out that I missed or could have done is a good slap to the forehead, and helps me the next time.

Just a note about some of these older pics......while the "slices only" worked wonders for Kick's brisket in 2007 & 2008, in 2009 the presentation scores were indicating that this was not what the judges seemed to be looking for. I'd made no changes to the flavor profile or cooking process, but couldn't get my foot inside the top 10. Near the end of the year, I made the decision to start adding some burnt ends to the box and VIOLA, I'm back in the money! So be prepared to make adjustments. But the bottom line is you've got to figure out what works for you!

Not to highjack (well, just a little) but I have heard other judges beotching about not getting any burnt ends . You're not supposed to judge what isn't there, only what the cook presented.

It's a regional thing too. Take a local Judging Class, in my case the PNWBA, judge a couple comps and get a feel for whats getting turned in.

Thanx Mr. Kick, but I've still got to take (and pass) the test before I graduate .
