Default Where to buy Hickory Chips - Las Vegas

Hey guys, anyone in the Las Vegas area who can point me toward where to buy chips for smoking? I have a friend there that is sending over a box of "supplies" for some of his friends in the Philippines. He has a bit of room left in the box. I need to find a source of Hickory Chips or Cherry Chips (or chunks).

I'm using a Smokenator in a Weber 22.5 grill so the chips work well, but I can adapt to chunks. The chips will "mold" to fit available space as packing too.

Anyone know a source of commercial chips in the Las Vegas area? I want to keep it convenient for him as much as possible.

TIA!

Smaller chunks for a smokenator can be made from chunks using a hatchet. That's what I did. Worked great. Some of the best TBS came from that.

Chips burn up too fast. Home Depot carries hickory, mesquite, apple and cherry chunks. Google "Char broil wood chunks".

I like apple and cherry with a bit of hickory. I'm sure there is a store close by the Vegas metro area.

Ace Hardware is another possibility.

If you are close to the Bass Pro Shop, they also carry smoking woods.

Thanks guys, I'll google up some of those places and see how close they are to him. I know the strong preference of most smokers is for chunks. But getting the stuff shipped to the Philippines is a challenge. Chips work better for that and do not grab custom's attention the same way larger pieces of wood do.

Importing larger amounts of wood requires a phylosanitary permit at $107 a pop. I'm trying to stay away from that requirement unless I bring a serious amount across the Pacific Ocean that would make it worth spending the extra money on it.

Ten pounds or so of chips or shreds, while not ideal, are doable and won't get the local official's panties in a bundle. Or so I hope.

Well, I was browsing the Smokinlicious wood website and they had free shipping, so I got some hickory shreds from them. I don't know how that compares to the bags they sell at Walmart or Bass Pro, but at least it will show up on his doorstep. I just got the small 1/4 cubic foot of chips. I don't know how much that weighs. At least I'll have a little wood to play with. Currently I'm using the little aluminum foil packages since that is the only commercial smoking wood I've ever seen in the Philippines.

Be Happy that you have so many options back in the States!
