Tired of buying wood chunks from the hardware store. After some searching i'm thinking about ordering a 30lb box of mixed chunks. Any thoughts or better ideas?
Thanks guys

Do yourself a favor and buy the mini splits. They have a little higher moisture content and they keep it longer. Just cut a chunk off when you need it with a skil saw. Keep it in the deep freezer. Their cherry is the bomb! I cut all my pecan fresh since is everywhere here in tx.

Puttin Jason's arse to work, splitting fresh pecan will wear you out. After debarking, this is all we got done out at the farm camphouse.

Don't look like much, but it's about 100 lbs of pecan heart wood which has a redder color.

When big pecan limbs break off, gotta get em off the ground quick or grub worms will eat it up in no time.

jmoney - I loves me some cherry wood but not sure I would take up fridge space for it. With the limited supply I have I will go through it before it gets too dry so I don't worry too much about storage.

Thanks guys! Order placed. On jmoney7269's advice I grabbed the splits

I was going to suggest watching CL and doing some scouting following bad storms.

Then I looked at your handle

Anyway, buying wood is necessary for stuff like mesquite or peach that we can't find locally. You should be able to pick up cherry, apple, hickory, maple and oak locally.

:grin:Yes i am lazy
My dad has apple & a buddy has pear but they both use pesticides on the tree's. I asked them to stop so we will see. I have maple, ash & mulberry in my yard that I need to trim up so I'm set there
I don't have the room in the deep freeze but I do have a spare fridge so the wood will go in it's freezer

I just recently was introduced to Fruita and it is simply amazing the quality compared to those in you will find in stores. I will NEVER go back to hardware store wood again!

Why in the freezer? Time to learn a new trick or two.

Keeps them frozen and keeps the moisture in the wood. The sugars and saps in fresh fruit wood are what make them so amazing. The 2 outside fridges and upright freezer are mine to do what I please with, heathers LG stainless is all hers, thats how I like it, so does she. The wood smokes longer. Gotta go easy on this cherry compared to hardware stores cherry. I use it for color and pecs. For flavor. I can't stand hickory.
Forgot about these little guys hiding also. Dang cherry wood everywhere!

I'm always competition shopping so even if we go into the stores I always look around to see of anything worthy of buying for comps. I'm real picky about my meats. I Will cook anything for friends or family, but I probably check 25 ribs on average before I find a really nice one with straight bones, nice marbling and thick all the way through. Last time I went into my comp brisket suppliers BBQ shop, I snagged 2 choice CAB 17lb national packers.

I just bought a mixed box 12" splits from Fruita, its great quality wood, the box is well labeled and organized.
