Interesting listening Vegas Dates, Royal Winners

Thanks for sharing the link Thom. Ronnie Cates will be our first interview to give us the dates and further details about the 2012 USA BBQ Championship in Las Vegas. There are some pretty exciting details that he will give out on the air. We will follow up with Motley Que Crew which was crowned American Royal Open Grand Champion this week. We just received confirmation that our 3rd interview will be Mark Breen from Serial Griller. Serial Griller went 10th in the AR Invitational and 20th in the AR Open. Any of you that have cooking the AR in the past know that is one hell of a feat. Please join us as all this fun starts at 7 PM EST at the link provided above by Thom. Don't forget that when we wrap up at 9 PM, Greg Rempe will be over on www.theoutdoorcookingchannel.com as he will have Joe Beland from Tippy Canoe BBQ talking about his AR Invitational victory and he also has Myron scheduled to come on and talk about his AR cooks. There are 4 hours of solid BBQ radio programming scheduled for tonight. Please join us!

Over/under on the amount of times Myron calls the Royal a 'damn crapshoot'?

Another Myron quote... "It is until you win one." :-D

Of course he was talking about the use of "World Champion" on various contests, but I think it might just apply here, too. That's funny chit though, Chris. Missed you this year.

Durn it I have a meeting tonight - will this be available as a podcast?

Rumor has it the dates are the same date as our contest in Pleasant Hill. Ronnie thinks we're all in it for the cash. Bet we have as many here for $11,000 as he does for $250,000 if the last Vegas contest was any indication. I like Ronnie and I think his intentions for BBQ's future are good. I just don't agree with his belief on what motivates BBQ teams.

I'm coming out next year. I'm qualified for the invite already so will be there for sure.

If I recall, the team count on most of these big money contests have been pretty average, no?

Without checking ~200 teams in Little Rock and ~100 in Vegas this year. A bit harder to draw the numbers out to Vegas. I'd guess 200 teams tops for a 250k purse.

There were two popular contests in California that weekend
So very few teams from the West made the trip last year
With this early time frame Western Organizers will be able to adjust

So Thom... Can I be the first to ask if i can borrow your equipment??? :becky:

CSC will be there. Viva Las Vegas. Sorry Jeff, i do understand what you are saying. It's worth a shot in the dark and i play to try to win cash. A good greed though...

There is bound to be a much better showing from CA as Thom mentions. Last year there were 2 pretty decent sized contests the same weekend, one up north and one down south so there were a lot of teams tied to those. A couple teams did both, but that was a very rare exception.

I, personally, am looking forward to trying my hand at a few of these bigger events that are a bit further afield since my rookie year will be done. I have focused on certain events this year and won't have that same restriction next year. Although budget will be my concern as I have attended way more contests than I had planned this year chasing my dream.

Actually you would be the third to ask
I am really thinking about doing this one myself
Let me see how it shakes out over the next week

Ahhhh... remind me if those 'others' won a GC on your stuff... :becky:

Maybe I'll have a private cooking class at this contest. Might as well jump on that bandwagon a little more... :thumb:
