I am looking at picking up a YS1320 but am unsure if it is large enough to do a whole competition on?

Anybody know if it is big enough?

Yes, it is basically what Andy G. (Smoke on Wheels) used in the big contest in Cali. Lots of room and several temp. variations in the smoke chamber with 2 large shelves. It is basically their Kingman stick burner with a pellet pooper on the side. I also believe that Andy had been using the Kingman in contests and convinced Don and Joe to make it into a pellet pooper. The cooker he used in Cali. was a Kingman stick burner on a Comp. cart. That is one bad ass cooker, but so is the 1320 if you want a pellet pooper.

I can almost do a full comp on the 640. So would say you'd have no problem with the 1320.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it will be big enough. I am super interested in getting one, but didn't want to drop the cash if I were to regret the size.

You should be fine. Might have to arrange your time table a little bit but e 1320 should be plenty big enough.

You'll love it when you get it. I've been on board with the 640 almost since they first came out and really like it.

Picked up mine last November...

and even though this is will be my first year to compete; I haven't had any problems cooking practice runs with my 1320. There seems to be plenty of room. I cooked 4 butts, 1 brisket and 6 racks on it for a family get together and would have had room for some thighs. I really like cooking in it, still figuring out the nuances of the heat zones. Hopefully, by April I will have it all dialed in.

Thanks daWreck'n Q - I want to pick one up soon so that I can prepare for the upcoming season. If I am alone at a contest, staying up all night stoking the Lang is a little much. I am ready to crash by the time turn-ins start. Hopefully a pellet smoker can help me out with that. A couple more hours of sleep would be great.

You're welcome. One other thing; be prepared for it to be big and heavy!!! I have had to load it and unload off the utility trailer a couple of times, by myslef; it was all most more than I could do. It is also a bit top heavy when going up & down the ramp. Not a terrible thing, but it is heavy! You don't have to worry about where to latch it down either, as they provide some pretty substantial d-rings under it.

One thing you might consider is buying 2 of the 640's. I was just in the All Things BBQ store a week ago, and took a look at the Yoder's. They are VERY heavy duty and I would love to have one. But with a base price of $1299 for the 640 and $3395 for the 1320 you could have 2 separate quality smokers. I know the 1320 comes with the competition cart and I am sure there are some other differences to make the price difference but it is just a thought.

I have a 640 and love it. I was thinking of getting the 1320 or the FEC100. Does the 1320 use the same controller as 640? Does it hold temp well and how do you like the heat management plate?

I don't have my 1320 yet but will in a couple of weeks. But I can tell you the heat management system is going to be great if it works anything like the one on the Kingman. I have one of those as well and that's a great addition. Really looking forward to trying it on the pellet cooker.

If you would, please post your opinion and observations comparing the 640 and 1320. I plan on ordering a 640 in mid to late Feb, but I would love to hear a comparison.
