I did the same thing you are doing. I wanted the remote first because it was cheaper and I could walk away and possibly get some shut-eye. I then saved up and bought the thermapen. They both have their advantages with the remote being more versatile but the thermapen is definitely quicker and more accurate.

Edit: Ooops! I see I don't know how to play the game. I should have put a number and a short sentence

For me it is all about the speed. I grew up on ECBs where every second you had the lid up it could drop your pit temp by a ton. Before I got my Thermapen, I had a CDN which took what seemed like an eternity to come up to temp. By the time I had a meat reading my pit chamber temp could be all the way down to 150 degrees. Now that I have a better pit and a Thermapen, i can do a quick check without loosing much heat at all.

9.) Small diameter probe.

From a business stand point, they must have good patents and/or are in a sweet niche that allows them to sell a good product that's not 100% made in China at a relatively high price point in a way that doesn't entice competitors to make cheap similarly performing knock offs in China and selling them for half the price.

Because of that, Thermoworks doesn't feel market pressure to lower customer service standards or product quality and, therefore, price to compete with cheap knock offs.

My competition daze are probably behind me now; I pretty much cook for family, friends, and frankly the peace and solitude I get from smokin' on an offset...
Was Lang 84DX, now Bubba Grills 250R and many Weber grills
