Looked up on McNichols website. The hot dipped looked like it had a texture to the metal. This stuff was smooth and when I put my fingers through the hole just to carry it the weight caused it peel off some skin. Galvanized looked like the edges were almost rounded.

At a temperature high enough to burn the liner out of the barrel, you will warp the lid. When sanding, wire wheel brushing or grinding on the lid, don't let it get too hot in one area.

The lid doe's not warp when smoking because the whole lid heats up evenly.

That is my dads house, and yes it is on the Delta.

I took the UDS over to his house on easter...... He liked it so much, I ended up giving it to him.

We ended up having 8 racks of these babys.

how do you know when it has burned long enough? Most of the paint is off the exterior of the barrel excluding the bottom inch or so. popped a couple times like a gun....funny. The outside isn't smoking.

Depends on how hard you want to work wire bushing the inside and what kind of wire brush you have.

It's good to be able to tip the barrel on its side and roll it with the fire going to burn out the bottom. Also a yard blower or air compressor will help you "cherry" any spots on the barrel. Being on bare ground or gravel is expected.

This just shows you that an upright UDS on a deck with a small coal fire is no fire concern.

Old Hippie can you post a pic of the support system for your fold down side tables? That looks like some very fine work you did there. Thanks.
