This is my first build. I unfortunately built it during one of the coldest February's in history so I have not been able to pretty 'er up yet. I am going to paint it this spring with engine paint (flat black), my question is how much paint does a drum typically take?

Nathan
I would get 2 -3 cans of Hi Heat Primer, and probably the same amount of Hi Heat paint.
That should get it coated pretty well.

I recomend getting a cover, and keep it up off the ground to keep it looking good longer.

Built this for my Dad a couple months back because he gave me his WSM and was down to an electric Brinkman. I wanted to give him more capacity and this was way better than just giving him back the WSM. Now we have one more smoker in the family! The insulation is unnecessary and his add on but it does sip fuel. I also gave him some rebar to go PBC style if he wants. I wish I had a pic of the firebasket, its a stainless beast.

Went through the entire thread, and made a bunch of notes on the features I want to use when I start mine. Thanks for all the pictures, they make it easy.

Might as well throw mine in here. This is my first kick at the cat and i am sure that the next one will have some improvements. Right now I have a fire basket for hot smoking and a hot plate for cold (colder) smoking. My bambi sausages like right around 150.

My intention in days to come is to build a smoke generator for true cold smoking.
