Charcoal basket question

I'm going to be making the charcoal basket for the UDS tomorrow, how tall are the baskets (the actual expanded metal) that you guys use/built for the Minion Method? I have a 24x24 sheet of expanded metal...Thanks for the help, Anthony

mine is 17 round & 8 tall

Mine is about 8" tall as well, next one, I will go 12" tall, as I feel the added height will be nice.

I would definitely give yourself the extra height, I have one that is about 8" and the other is 12". Without a doubt it is convenient having the ability to load up the larger one. The 8" works fine though, the other is just a nice advantage.

How large a diameter grate are you using? 12" height is plenty enough but if you're planning on using it on a 17" grate you're gonna need more than 53" of expanded metal to wrap around the grate.
At 8" high your 24x24 piece will give you more than enough length required for the largest grate.

Been using a 24 qt. strainer with a pizza pan for a diffuser in my UDS and it has been working like a champ..
