Default Old School Cook

I don't know how many of you still cook on a bandera or BSKD, but I still use mine on a regular basis for smaller or personal cooks. I like that I can burn sticks on top of the charcoal basked, and that with the mods, she pretty much loves the 225-250 sweet spot. I also can more easily cook at higher temps if I remove the stack cover.

Below is about 30lbs of butts, and we are fixing to put some beans on shortly!

I have to laugh, as when I was looking to buy my first real smoker, I wanted a NB Bandera because that was what my buddy was cooking on. At that time, you could only find the CharBroil version online, but a friend let us know that Northern Tool had BSKDs in stock. The rest is history!

Anyway, we still cook on ours, and I was wondering how many Brethren still cook on this type of smoker as this site used to be called the Bandera Brethren!

I cook on my BSKD regularly. I love it! I have inner-self arguments if I choose to use my OTS sometimes over my BSKD and I feel guilty. I use my BSKD as a stick burner, but I always start with a chimney full of KB for the initial bed of coals.

One of these days when I find a good quality OKJ or comparable bandera style at a steal of a price, I will have to get one.
